Thunderstorm, Lightning Predicted Across Odisha Over Next 4 Days, SRC Issues Advisory


Bhubaneswar: Light to moderate rain with thunderstorm and lightning is likely to occur in 27 out of 30 districts of Odisha over the next four days, according to a warning issued by the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) in its midday weather bulletin today.

The IMD has issued thunderstorm and lightning warning for the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur,

Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal,Nayagarh, Khurda, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Boudh, Sonepur, Rayagada, Nawarangpur,  Nuapada from 1.30 PM today to 8.30 AM of May 11 (Tuesday).

Keeping this in view, the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC’s) office has issued an advisory to all Collectors to take steps to circulate the warning message among the public.

The Collectors have been asked for close monitoring and take action as deemed necessary in case of eventuality apart from promptly reporting details to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).

The IMD has issued a Yellow Warning predicting thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, and Khurda for the next 24 hours.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of North Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of South Odisha,” the IMD said in its weather forecast for the State for the next 24 hours.

In Bhubaneswar and its neighbourhood, the sky will remain partly cloudy with the possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorm and the maximum and minimum temperature are very likely to be around 39 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius respectively, the IMD said.

The IMD’s weather bulletin said that there shall be no large change in maximum temperature (Day temperature) during the next 03 days and it will rise gradually thereafter by 2-3 degrees Celsius at many places over the districts of Odisha.

Here’s the IMD’s weather outlook for Odisha for the next five days:

Day 1 (valid from 1330 hrs IST of 07.05.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 08.05.2021).

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of North Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of South Odisha.

Yellow Warning(To be updated): Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda.

Day 2 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 08.05.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 09.05.2021).

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of North Odisha, South Coastal Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of South Interior Odisha.

Yellow Warning(To be updated): Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput. Also, hailstorm is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur.

Day 3 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 09.05.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 10.05.2021).

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul and at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.

Yellow Warning(To be updated) Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj.

Also, hailstorm is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Angul.

Day 4 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 10.05.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 11.05.2021).

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi and dry weather very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

Yellow Warning(To be updated) Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Nawarangpur, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak.

Day 5 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 11.05.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 12.05.2021).

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nawarangpur and dry weather very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.
